It is mostly agreed that if a politician of a certain party is “contaminated” , then the brand is just as contaminated. This was said by the well-respected political commentator and former editor of The Times (UK), William Rees-Mogg.
Branding is now taken seriously as a phenomenon within politics. Of course, branding in its most widely understood sense has always had a role to play in politics. Slogans, which are now used to promote the virtues of everything from washing powder to beer, originated as the rallying cries of warring factions, Who could argue that the Nazi party or the Communist Party of the former Soviet Union did not present strongly branded identities? Historically, however, branding techniques were used to reinforce and communicate fundamental points of difference – either you believed in the redistribution of wealth or you did not.
I think branding makes politics more interesting. I think they did a spectacular job with Clinton-- even after all the public messes he's been in, the American public would probably re-elect him if they could. Branding is a required pipeline for a sound decision. The problem with political candidates/parties is they try to constantly change the brand to meet the desire of the audience, just to win votes. That is what creates bad branding in politics.

so...in order to create solid branding...u need to stick with core brand and build it up? and do not change the brand before it is matured?
in order to create a solid brand, you need to monitor and stick with your brand name for at least 5 years. that's why you need to think of the brand name, logo, tagline / the positing very clear in the very beginning before you decide on building the brand. else your targeted audiences will confuse about your brand name. hope to answer your question.
Political Branding?
if messed up, politicians will be immortalized in history. if done a extremely good job as leader, also will be immortalize in history.. either one you get somethings.
but malaysian politicans are not good in their branding.. u can say bigotry remarks and yet get away with suspension.. blegh! and i can tell you. one day, someone up there, when he step down, no one will remember him as a good leader, instead he known to be someone that lost credibility to the rakyat..
