Once upon a stone age, there were only a comparatively few major media that conscientious public relations practitioners could use to reach their target audiences with any certainty: magazines, newspapers, radio and television.
The professionals who staffed these media were often referred to as "gate keepers" because they pretty much controlled whether a PR practitioner's offering was "newsworthy" enough to interest their audience/s and therefore had earned the right to appear in public. In return for giving up this control, PR practitioners gladly settled for being able to espouse the strength and purity of "third party credibility." And then came along a new era - The Emergence of "New/Emerging" Media – and blogs are just one of the many channels.
Traditionalists argue that many of the "citizen journalists" manning various "new" media can hardly claim the same experience, objectivity and credibility as a traditional print or electronic journalist. So their output often tends to lack objectivity and "third party credibility."
Instead of waiting patiently for the scheduled evening/ morning newscast or print run, the public has developed a crushing need to access news and information practically before it exists, and so there is a growing dash - particularly in the younger age brackets so precious to clients - to find out what's new or breathtaking as quickly as possible via the thousands/millions of blogs, podcasts, social network sites and other "new" media that mushroom exponentially on a daily basis.
Say what you will about new media – it is here to stay – and perhaps it’s time we took matters into out hands and begin disseminating what’s newsworthy the best and most accurate way we know how.

Don't some governments term New Media, alternate media? Shocking that in this, the age of technology and the global internet citizen, there is a failure in recognizing the omnipotence of New Media. On-line news portals see more hits than traditional newspapers and television news programs combined. Take that!
Yes,im one of the many consumer out there who cant wait for the scheduled morning or evening print run.I check it online the night before and news material is more accurate.Furthermore,Its been a long time since i bought magazines in the stand.Everything ONLINE!
Its true- the new media is here to stay!
Until I met you, I just wondering how powerful a PR & Media person is. Although I don't know much about PR & Media. But I can felt you went through so many challenges in your past experience. Aneesa, you are a great PR person with good ethics in doing the work professionally. I hope your passion will keep shinning & benefits to the delegates who are attending your PR, Media Management & Creative Writing public workshop in coming August.
The world has many different viewpoints as each person is different and views the world differently from others. New media allows this differences in viewpoint and opinions to be seen in it's full. Well maybe not all... as this blog also has a gatekeeper.
PR has gotten a new name. And many instances, a new direction. Good to acknowledge the fact the future of PR is more online driven as technology drives the speed of content.
Although I am new to the blog excess, but you have made me realised how important is the new media as it allows and share opinions to be more transparent for informations thru your trainings. Thank you.
